Southwest
Southwest Alaska is a remote and rugged region of the state, home to towering mountains, rushing rivers, and dense forests. Above all, it is a land of stunning natural beauty, with an abundance of wildlife including grizzly bears, eagles, salmon, moose and caribou. It generally includes the Alaska Peninsula and the Aleutian Islands, as well as the Kodiak Island Borough. Southwest Alaska is sparsely populated, with most of the population living in small rural communities. The largest city in the region is Kodiak, with a population of just over 6,000. It is also home to the Aleutian Islands, a chain of islands that stretch westward from Alaska towards Russia. Visitors can enjoy hiking, camping, fishing, and wildlife viewing in this unforgettable setting.
